Volunteering at the CBS Food Pantry

Volunteers are the heart of our organization.

• Volunteers do intake, sort and bag food, and distribute food during food pantry hours
• Volunteers break down boxes and carry out the trash during food pantry hours​
• Volunteers purchase and deliver needed additional food from local stores
• Volunteers pick up, sort, and pack special and regular donations from churches and organizations
• Volunteers organize and run all of our fund raising activities
• Volunteers contribute money, food, and their time to keep the food pantries in operation
• Volunteers serve on the Board of Directors and on Board Committees, working to implement the strategic plan and insure that there is adequate funding for the organization

SOME OF OUR CURRENT VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:

Food Pantry Volunteers
The number of families served by the food pantry has increased substantially. People are needed for a few hours or all day on Tuesdays at the pantry at Gethsemane Lutheran Church. No experience necessary!

• 7:30-10:00 am:  unload the delivery truck and do set-up (physical work)
  10:30am-2:30pm:  distribute food to clients, restock shelves
• Pick up, sort, and pack special and regular donations from churches and organizations (as needed)
• Deliver to homebound clients (as needed)
  

Grant Writer
We are in need of someone willing to assist in grant writing.  Experience is desired but not required.  Training and other resources are available.

GCFD Volunteers
You or your group may volunteer at the Greater Chicago Food Depository (GCFD) on behalf of the CBS food pantry.  Please call CBS at 708-863-4913 to sign up as a "CBS volunteer" at the GCFD.
