THE PODBOR-ZILLHART STORYWilma Podbor and Don Zillhart were the first co-coordinators of the CBS Food Pantry. In May of 1987, Wilma and other members of Berwyn United Lutheran Church's Social Ministry Committee came to Gethsemane Lutheran Church to re-open the food pantry. Don Zillhart and others from Gethsemane joined the pantry volunteer staff later that year. In January of 1989, Wilma and Don were officially elected to the positions of co-coordinators.
Wilma Podbor retired from serving as co-coordinator of the Pantry in 1994, due to limitations after suffering a stroke. She remained a faithful supporter of the Pantry until her death in 1999. Don Zillhart retired from serving as coordinator in 1997, although he continued to help out whenever he was needed. He remained a faithful supporter of the pantry until his death in 2001. Today we remember Wilma and Don with thanksgiving and give thanks for their dedication and leadership in our mission to feed the hungry. |
THOSE WE SERVE
What is the CBS Anti-Hunger Foundation?
In 1989, our organization was founded as the Cicero-Berwyn-Stickney Anti-Hunger Foundation, a name we used for almost 25 years. In 2014, the Board of Directors voted to change the name to "Food Pantry" to better reflect our mission. Although we've legally changed from one name to the other, so you may still find references to the CBS Anti-Hunger Foundation when you work with us and in external web sites. This website is provided thanks to the generosity of our supporters.
